Carpet Dents and How to Fix them
Carpet Dents and How to Fix them
The carpet underneath your furniture will most likely have dents due to the weight of your furniture. The carpet might be a different color (looks newer).
There are many methods to remove dents from carpet. However, it is important not to cause further damage to the carpet.
- Moving furniture is a frequent task. Preventing carpet dents is the best way to avoid them. Your furniture should be moved a few inches each month so they don't stay in one spot for too long. This will prevent permanent dents. Carpet will recover if it isn't created and left alone for a prolonged period of time.
- Make your feet bigger. Spread the furniture's weight across a wider area to reduce dents. Placing furniture disks or larger pieces wood under the feet will help to spread the weight over a greater area. The dents will be less severe and more likely to heal. This works well with couches and beds where the feet do not need to be visible. The discs look out of place on tables and chairs.
- Cold. If the carpet is already damaged, place an ice cube into the dent. Then let it melt in the dent for several hours. Use a towel or sponge to absorb any water and then use a spoon to lift the carpet up. You must be careful not damage the carpet while trying to fluff up it. Remember to keep the water and ice out of the carpet.
- Heat. If cold isn't working, heat it. Use a towel to dry the dent. The steam will help to loosen the fiber. Next, fluff the carpet with a spoon, just like you did with the ice. Don't use a hot iron directly on carpet. Do not heat the blower too close to carpet. Fluffing carpet should not cause damage to the fibers.
Sometimes, professional carpet cleaning and repair are the only way for the dent to rise. A carpet's color change is also due to dirt and fading. This needs to be professionally cleaned in order to make it look brand new.
